Park Open

The Colleges Crossing Recreation Reserve is now open.  The reconstruction of the devastated park finished on Friday - and the multi-million dollar rebuilding program has delivered a fun relaxation area on the Brisbane River.

Lucky Cafe

With the devastation that is hitting Toowoomba and the Lockyer area - we are extremely lucky that we were able to move our cafe before the wall of water hit Colleges Crossing.

Trucking the cafe up to the top of the hill at Allawah Road means that we were able to save the cafe. The water through Colleges Crossing park, has now reached 15m. For those who know the cafe, the water level is above the hedge that surrounded the cafe.

There's more to come, with the flood front from Lockyer creek to join up with the rising Brisbane River. The whole of the 25ha park is underwater.

We count ourselves lucky that the cafe was designed to be moved - avoiding massive damage to the building and its contents.

The massive amount of water going over the Mt Crosby weir is an awesome sight.
It of course means that there is no access to Ipswich from the west of Brisbane.
Up Toowoomba way the damage and devastation is unprecedented and our hearts go out to them - its been compared to Cyclone Tracey that wiped out Darwin in 1975.

Another Day - Another Deluge:

It would be nice to be talking about food and coffee under the sun - instead...
The Brisbane River is 6.41 metres and rising at Colleges Crossing. Mt Crosby Road and the bridge across the river are still closed.
For those detouring around the Mt Crosby weir - the river height has exceeded 9m - and the river is boiling and bubbling. The road needs grading to iron out the hundreds of potholes.
In Ipswich the Bremer hit 9m and the clean up is underway.

Christmas Monday

Cafe is still closed - hughie just keeps sending it down. Mt Crosby road is still closed over Colleges Crossing, and the barricades are still up.
The river level at the Mt Crosby weir is 8.7 metres, and the Brisbane River at Colleges is 5.51 metres. Low tide is at 11.25am.
The Bremer River at Ipswich is 8m.
The records just keep being broken.
Everyone will start suffering from cabin fever shortly.
